What is the Disability Accessibility Rating

The Disability Access Rating (DAR) is a national standard created by The National Unpaid Carers Union and Forum (NUCUF) to measure, recognise, and improve accessibility across the United Kingdom. DAR provides a clear, consistent 5‑star rating for accessibility across venues, trains, and buses helping disabled people and unpaid carers make informed choices about the environments and services they rely on.

Purpose

DAR exists to make accessibility visible, measurable, and accountable.
It turns vague promises of “accessibility” into clear, evidence‑based ratings that can be trusted by the public.

How It Works

Each organisation is assessed against five core accessibility criteria relevant to its sector.
Stars are awarded for meeting these standards, and ratings are reviewed annually.
Assessments draw on verified data, public evidence, complaint analysis, and Freedom of Information reports.
